Root canal Treatment

Endodontic treatment, or a root canal, is a vital procedure for addressing infections or inflammation in the dental pulp – the innermost part of a tooth containing blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue. Instead of extracting the severely infected or damaged tooth, a root canal can be performed to save the tooth by removing the infected pulp and filling the space with a specialized material.

Does a root canal hurt?

Scaling means deep cleaning of teeth and gums with the help of ultrasonic scaler. It removes plaque, calculus, debris and stains.

does scaling damages tooth surface?

No, scaling does not damage tooth surface or enamel. Cleaning protects your teeth against gum disease like pyorrhea, periodontitis and tooth mobility.

ADA recommends teeth cleaning every 6 months in order to maintain proper oral hygiene.

Dental Crown and Bridges

A crown or cap is a dental restoratin that covers the exposed surface of a tooth to strengthen it or improve its appearance. A bridge is a dental restoration to replace one or more missing teeth. It includes an artificial tooth or teeth which are fused to crowns on either side to provide support.

Why do teeth need crowns?

There are multiple reasons a tooth could require a crown

large decay – tooth with large cavity destroyed the core structure of teeth ( enamel,dentine). By removing the cavity, building it back up, and covering it with a crown, the tooth will be able to do its job again
Large fillings – if a tooth already has large fillings that covers more than half of the tooth, remaining tooth structure is too week to withstand chewing forces for the rest of the tooth’s lifespan. By covering it with a crown, the tooth is given a better long-term prognosis
Cracks – for a tooth crack with a limited extent ( meaning it does not extend to the nerve inside the tooth or down the root underneath the gums), a crown is the only way to keep the crack from progressively getting worse
RCT – After root canal treatment the infected nerve and blood vessels are removed from the hollow chamber inside the tooth. There is no longer any nourishment to the tooth, and it quickly becomes dried out and brittle. So the tooth needs to be covered in a crown to prevent it from cracking.
